Tamiflu (Oseltamivir) is an anti viral drug that is administered worldwide to combat Influenza A and B type virus infections in human beings. Tamiflu is taken orally or as suspension. The drug become active when it passes through liver. TamiFlu can be taken for both treatment as well as prevention of Flu.

TamiFlu can be administered to both adults and children (above 1 year). Studies have shown that TamiFlu provides faster relief to patients suffering from Flu infection.

Flu vaccines work the best for Flu prevention but as the new strains vary from location to location, you can still catch up Flu. If you are encountering Flu outbreak in your area, it is advised to procure TamiFlu dosage for you and your family.

Dosage

For Treatment of Flu (all twice a day for 5 days)

Adults and teens over 13 take 75mg
The dosage for younger children who are 1 year and older depends on their weight:
+ <33lbs - 30mg - need 1 bottle
+ >33 to 51lbs - 45mg - need 2 bottles
+ >51 to 88lbs - 60mg - need 2 bottles
+ >88lbs - 75mg - need 3 bottles

For Prevention of Flu

Adults and teens take 75mg once a day for 10 days
Children over age of 1 year can take the same dose they would for treatment of the flu, but take it just once a day for 10 days

Dosage for kidney patients.

If you have kidney problems, you should consult a doctor to discuss your dosage of TamiFlu. Recommended dosage for Kidney patients is as follows:-

For Treatment of Flu: One 75 mg dose, once daily for 5 days
For Prevention of Flu: One 75 mg dose every other day or 30 mg dose once daily

If you have forgotten to take your dosage on time, you can take the missed dosage at least 2 hours prior to the next scheduled dose. You should never take 2 dosages within a gap of 2 hours to make up for the missed dose.

TamiFlu Storage

TamiFlu pills should be stored at room temperature (below 25 degree Celsius) and should be kept at a dry place. Liquid TamiFlu should be kept at 2 to 8 degree Celsius in refrigerator. Liquid TamiFlu should not be frozen.
Keep TamiFlu out of reach of children.

Side Effects Of TamiFlu

TamiFlu is very safe to be administered for treatment and prevention of Flu. In rare cases, some patients may experience the following side effects:

• Skin and Allergic reactions.
• Children suffering from Flu can experience confusion after taking TamiFlu dosage.
• Nausea
• Vomiting

Other Important Tips

• Do not take TamiFlu if you are allergic to any of the compounds of TamiFlu
• TamiFlu is not recommended in pregnancy. Side Effects on unborn Child are not yet known. If you are pregnant, do consult a doctor before taking TamiFlu medication.
• Intranasal Flu vaccine should not be given 2 weeks prior and 48 hours after TamiFlu.
• Do consult with doctor if you have heart problem, respiratory problem, or other serious health issue.
